Really? And what if I'm a passenger? And if I'm not a passenger will the same vehicle lock my radio/cd/iPod controls. Well, wait the passenger should be able to adjust those too. We obviously all agree drunk driving is bad will we also enforce driving while sleep deprived. Perhaps, women's makeup cases should lock if the vehicle is moving, electric shavers for men as well. You hit a hot button with you mico-post Joshua. It's ALL already covered by inattentive driving. That means if I am on an open stretch of road and can use my phone safely it's my judgment call. If my judgment proves wrong the officer has inattentive driving “laws” to address my phone and all the other examples above. – There's my 2 cents worth

Well Jim, clearly I don't care about the passengers. In all honesty, the beauty of Twitter's 140 character limit is you can brainstorm aloud and not put much thought into it. Which, conversely, is also the problem with it (make it easier to have a full conversation Twitter!!).

To extrapolate the concept a bit further: why not keep everything as is until you go over the speed limit or drive recklessly? Then the car has sensors that calculate this and shut off signals inside the car. Radio, cell, etc. This isn't cost effective in anyway as it would require sensors in the road or road signs to signal the car's transmitter for speed, etc (they have autonomous cars in California that use this already for testing).

So, in certain circumstances, the car would “penalize” the driver AND passengers by turning off the luxuries in the cabin. It would annoy the hell out of everyone. But, truthfully, they are breaking the law and a little of Pavlov's conditioning will do a whole lot of good here in my opinion
